Breaking the Cycle: My 2,192-Day Journey to Sobriety
Feb 12, 2025
Six years ago, I made a decision that would change my life forever. I quit drinking for my daughter. She was under a year old, and I could see the generational cycle repeating itself. I knew deep down that I had to break the pattern—for her, for me, and for the future.
The road to sobriety isn’t always easy, but I can say with complete certainty that it has been the most life-changing decision I have ever made.
The Moment I Knew I Had to Change
Sobriety wasn’t something I had planned for years. It wasn’t a New Year’s resolution or something I thought about casually. It was a wake-up call. I looked at my baby girl, and I knew I wanted her to grow up in a home that was loving, kind, and supportive—free from the emotional weight of alcohol.
I had spent years drinking without fully realizing the mental toll it was taking on me. The anxiety, the self-doubt, the constant mind chatter—I thought it was just part of life. But deep down, I knew alcohol was playing a bigger role than I wanted to admit.
And so, I made a choice: I chose her over alcohol. I chose us.
The Hardest Part: Rediscovering Myself
When I first quit, I thought the hardest part would be saying no to drinks at social events or breaking old habits. But what truly challenged me was figuring out who I was without alcohol.
For so long, drinking had been a part of my identity. It was part of my routine, my social life, and my way of coping. Without it, I had to rediscover:
🔹 Who am I when I’m not drinking?
🔹 What kind of life do I actually want?
🔹 Who do I want to be for my daughter?
This was a journey of unlearning, healing, and rebuilding—but one that gave me more than I ever imagined.
What Sobriety Gave Me
Now, 2,192 days later, my life looks completely different. And not just in the obvious ways.
Here’s what I’ve gained:
🌿 Inner Peace – The anxiety that once controlled me is gone. No more racing thoughts, no more regret, no more self-doubt.
🧘 Connection to Self – I used to avoid being alone with my thoughts. Now, I love quiet time and embrace mindfulness as part of my daily routine.
💰 Abundance & Growth – Sobriety isn’t just about removing alcohol; it’s about creating space for everything else. My mindset, my relationships, and even my opportunities have transformed.
💪 Strength & Clarity – I wake up every day feeling strong, knowing I’m living a life I’m proud of.
My Message to Anyone Considering Sobriety
Say YES. If you’re thinking about making a change, take this as your sign. Sobriety will change your life in ways you never expected. It’s not just about giving something up—it’s about gaining so much more.
If I could go back and tell my past self one thing, it would be:
Follow your own path. The path that is calling you.
You don’t have to repeat the patterns you were given. You don’t have to continue what you saw growing up. You can break the cycle.
And I promise you—it’s worth it.
What Helped Me Stay Sober
Over the past six years, I’ve learned that staying sober is about more than willpower. Here are a few things that made all the difference for me:
✔️ Mindfulness & Meditation – Learning to sit with my thoughts instead of running from them changed everything.
✔️ Exercise – Moving my body helped me process emotions and gave me a new way to relieve stress.
✔️ Self-Compassion – Letting go of guilt and shame was key. I didn’t need to be perfect—I just needed to keep going.
✔️ Community – Surrounding myself with others who supported my journey made all the difference.
If you’re just starting out, know that you are not alone. And if you ever need support, I’m here to remind you: you are stronger than your cravings. You are worthy of a life that feels good.
Breaking the Cycle for Good
I look at my daughter now, and I know I made the right choice. She is growing up in a home filled with love, stability, and presence. And that, to me, is everything.
Sobriety isn’t about missing out—it’s about finally showing up for life.
